How to Setup A Security Camera IP address using an NVR

To record and view your IP security camera’s video footage you are going to want to hook it up to an NVR.
Many NVRs support plug and play technology. They have PoE (Power over Ethernet) ports. These ports can be used to connect your NVR to your IP cameras with an ethernet cable. In some cases where you don’t have a PoE port, or enough of them (i.e. an 8 camera NVR with only 4 PoE Ports) you will need to connect your security camera wirelessly.

Note : You will want to do this before mounting any of your cameras! If you mount them first completing the below steps will be more difficult.

Your Supplies

To wirelessly connect your IP camera to your LAN (Local Area Network) you will need the following:

  •           A PoE switch
  •          Access to your router
  •          NVR
  •          IP Camera
  •          A compatible monitor and mouse (i.e. a laptop         or PC)
  •          A power source (for your router, NVR, and PC)

Once you’ve gathered what you need just follow the steps below and you’ll be well on your way to having your IP CCTV CameraSecurity System up and running in no time!

Getting Started

To get your cameras and NVR to ‘talk’ to each other, they need to be on the same LAN. For this they must share the same IP address scheme. To do this you can use your NVR’s graphical User Interface (GUI) on your PC/laptop.

Configure just one camera at a time

  1.   To start, connect your IP CCTV Camera to your PoE switch. Then connect the switch and NVR to your router. This ensures that they are both working on the same network.
  2.    Open the GUI.
  3.   Right click and select ‘registration’.
  4.   Select ‘Device search’ in the top left corner
  5.   Your screen will then display the different devices on the network. Select the one you want to modify
a.      Your IP address will be something like: 192.145.1.X, X being the unique number for each different device on the network
b.      All of your devices will need their IP address to match that of your router with the exception of X

  •          Set the numbers as needed. All should match your router IP except X
  •        Type in password and click ‘Okay’
  •          Click ‘Add’ to add it to your NVR

Complete the above steps as needed for each of your cameras ..Now you’re done!
